And the Last Time You Heard a Children’s Song About Sushi Was....
Introducing Moey’s Music Party’s Debut CD
NEW YORK, NY (June 15, 2007) -- Fusing the brainy spirit of School House Rock with the dance-around fun of The Go- Go’s, award-winning songwriter Melissa Levis (aka Moey) gets the newborn and pre-school set rocking with the self-titled Moey’s Music Party CD. With songs like “I Gotta Go Potty,” “I Always Sit When I Eat” and “Getting Dressed is the Best,” this 17-song collection gets kids bopping while teaching counting, potty training, and other life lessons.
Other song highlights on the CD include, “New York City Kid”— a “12 Days of Christmas”-type counting anthem — which celebrates the excitement of living in or visiting the Big Apple.
“I’m a New York City Kid and I Love NYC / On my way to Central Park, right next to me
I saw 10 Starbucks, (cappuccino) / 9 Nannies (peek-a-boo)... / 1 doorman (good-morning) waving at me.”
Even Mayor Michael Bloomberg is a fan and wrote, “Your CD captures so much of what’s great in New York City. Even a card-carrying AARP member like me can appreciate that!”
“Sushi Symphony” extolls the fun of trying new food. “Little Red Riding Hood” re-writes the traditional damsel in distress tale. With inspiration from her Brown University education (and formative years listening to “Free To Be You and Me”) Levis has Little Red rescuing herself with a judo kick rather than waiting to be saved by the woodsman.
Levis feels like she has captured the hearts of young New Yorkers. “I can’t go into a Dunkin’ Donuts or pizzeria without being spotted.” She jokes, “Going into the playground with my son is an equivalent for me of walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival!” Levis says, “Parenthood inspired all of these songs. Every time my son zoomed around a restaurant or refused to wash his hair, I thought – this is a song moment!” According to The New York Post, Moey is affectionately known as “The Pied Piper in Pink.” She sings with her band for over 10,000 kids a year at venues including The Tribeca Film Festival, FAO Schwarz, Central Park and more.
Moey also teaches weekly Moey’s Music Party classes for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Each class introduces children to instruments, songs, dances, puppets, letters, and fairy tales based on a weekly party theme. She rocked Off- Broadway with a two-month run of Moey Live - P is for Party! at the DR2 Theatre in Union Square. The New York Times gave the Show a glowing endorsement noting that kids “dress up and go crazy as they follow Moey in a musical adventure to plan a fabulous party with things like puppets, princesses, pom-poms, and pirates.” Levis also created the “Sandbox Sing-Along Series” for the Central Park Conservancy and gave 30 concerts in New York City playgrounds.
Levis is a graduate of Middlesex School, Brown University and earned an MFA from New York University. The Moey’s Music Party CD was produced by Lemonade Productions LLC and costs $13.98. It is available through iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby, as well as from the band’s website, MoeysMusicParty.com.
